McCollum rallies Putnam GOP faithful, urges unity, turnout

Republicans must unite and turn out to vote in 2008 if they hope to recapture Congress and retain
the White House, state Attorney General Bill McCollum says.
Speaking in Palatka at the annual Lincoln Day dinner, McCollum sought to rally GOP faithful.
The party must regain the public’s favor, he said.
“Right now, the problem with the Republican Party is we don’t hold the sentiment of the public,” he
said.
The former congressman said the series of debates by presidential hopefuls in both parties gave
Republicans a forum to offer a specific contrast to critics and naysayers.
“The difference was clear,” he said. “We’re now getting to the meat of this.”
McCollum urged Putnam County Republicans to “reinvigorate the values of our party.”
“I’m an optimist,” he said. “I see this as a great opportunity campaign.”
